if I'm honest, I've been thinking about documentary filmmaking for a long time.

It's something that's sat in my subconscious, at the back of my mind for as long as I can remember, just waiting for the right time, I have always known at some point, I would make a documentary film, it's hard to explain, I had no idea when that would be or what it would be about, so maybe on some level I have been searching for the subject. In the lead up to finding this film, I had been researching the history of tattooing in Australia, which is a very interesting topic when you dive into the history. Made all the more interesting as I don't have any tattoos, so maybe might agree or disagree that I was the perfect person to tell that story.

Ultimately I decided not to pursue that idea, after looking into the viability of the idea and the possibility of being able to access funding to be able to start the project. It was maybe a six months after deciding to let this idea go for now that I was approached by someone I had known for multiple decades about a project to mark the twentieth anniversary of a community organisation and collective called Krosswerdz.

I knew of Krosswerdz and was familiar with a few of the key people that were responsible for starting the first gathering in 2006 and steering it over the next 20 years, navigating the difficult time of Covid lockdowns and other challenges and being able to celebrate key milestones such as a ten year anniversary in 2016.

It was quite serendipitous that right when I was seriously looking around for a documentary project to sink my teeth into, I was approached and without giving it too much thought I said yes. Naively, I had no idea how much work would be involved in bringing this story to life, and maybe that worked in my favor.

I am very excited to be able to share this documentary with the world and look forward to being able to get the word out about it to as many people as humanly possible. I feel that the story in engaging and educational and is a little piece of Australian hip hop history.

If you don't know Brethren, the australian hip hop duo are, by the end of the documentary, you will know who they are.
